Activist tasks Edo State government on transparency

The Executive Director, Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor, has called on the Edo State government to ensure transparency and accountability in the deployment of resources to Niger Delta institutions (NDIs) in the course of project execution.
Ugolor, who made the call yesterday during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Oil, Gas and Solid Minerals, Joseph Ughioke, in Benin City, commended the leadership of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) for its cooperation over the years towards the Strengthening Advocacy and Civil Engagement (SACE) project supported by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Chemonics.
He said: “We were extremely happy when EDSOGPADEC informed us of the road projects that they are currently executing in the three oil-producing areas of the state when we came to present the second phase of the project to the commission on January 19, 2018.
“The second phase, which commenced January 2017, is concentrating on the use of technology to measure the transparency level of the Niger Delta Institutions (NDIs) through the Niger-Delta Transparency and Accountability index.”
Ugolor noted that the index, developed by ANEEJ, consists of 49 indicators grouped under five headings and hosted on the Dyntra platform.
